you always liked fountain drinks,
thought the bottles had too much carbonation.
you wrote in journals
names your husband wouldn't recognize.
& thought it was okay.
safe.
because who am i really hurting
if i'm just trying
to find myself again?
II. Darling
“darling, darling—
it doesn't mean anything.
i promise.
i swear.
this is a mistake.
i love you.”
she pleaded
with a bedsheet around her waist, & an unnamed man still in her bed.
III. Honey
“honey, i'm home”
played
on a black & white tv.
watched by god,
not me.
a working father.
a stay-at-home mother. 2.5 kids. a white picket fence.
until it became
nuclear
in nature.
the children wept.
the parents yelled.
the television
kept playing.
