Letters for Survivors
To the One Who Forgave Themselves
You said things you didn't mean. Stayed longer than you should have. Looked away when your heart was begging you to see clearly. You thought if you were just more patient, more kind, more small, it wouldn't have happened.
You've carried that guilt longer than anyone else ever asked you to. You've called it accountability. You've mistaken shame for growth.
But you were surviving.
And survival sometimes doesn't look noble.
It just looks like staying.
Here you are loving yourself anyway. Not because you did everything right, but because you know now: your softness never caused the harm. Your hope wasn't the mistake.
You forgive yourself.
And that's holy work.
You let yourself breathe
without asking for pardon.
That was your release.
"Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting. It means you're done punishing yourself for what wasn't your crime."
